Onderzoek
“Door kritisch te kijken naar eigen handelen, kunnen we de effectiviteit van behandelingen verbeteren.”
Mijn onderzoeksactiviteiten strekken zich uit van psychodiagnostiek tot psychotherapie. Ondertussen is er een grootste gemene deler in al die activiteiten, namelijk het verbeteren van de zorg voor patiënten met psychische problemen door kritisch te kijken naar hoe patiënten spreken over hun symptomen, wat de rol van clinici daarin is, en of het zichtbaar maken van bijwerkingen, fouten en therapeutische mislukkingen de zorg kan optimaliseren. Op de website vind je de Nederlandstalige artikelen en Engelstalige publications waar ik als (co-)auteur betrokken ben geweest.
Onderwijs
Mijn onderwijsactiviteiten richten zich op psychodiagnostiek, klinisch vaardigheidsonderwijs en intervisie. Ik verzorg onderwijs binnen de Faculteit Psychologie en Neurowetenschappen van de Universiteit Maastricht. Enkele van mijn activiteiten betreffen:
- Ontwikkeling van het blok Psychodiagnostics binnen de bachelor Geestelijke Gezondheidskunde (GGK) van de Faculteit Health, Medicine, and Life Sciences (FHML).
- Coördinatie van het blok Malingering and All That binnen de master Forensic Psychology van FPN.
- Training in het classificeren van persoonlijkheidsstoornissen en crisisinterventie binnen de master Mental Health van FPN.
- Het leiden van intervisiegroepen voor zowel de master Forensic Psychology als de master Mental Health.
- Het begeleiden van bachelor- en mastertheses.
Patiëntzorg
Inmiddels werk ik ruim twintig jaar in de klinische praktijk. Ik ben opgeleid als neuropsycholoog, gezondheidszorgpsycholoog en vervolgens als klinisch psycholoog en psychotherapeut. Ik ben werkzaam geweest in het revalidatiecentrum, academische ziekenhuis, en de specialistische GGZ. Ik heb ervaring met neuropsychologische en psychologische diagnostiek, kortdurende klachtgerichte behandeling (cognitieve gedragstherapie, EMDR, Narratieve Exposure Therapie), persoonsgerichte psychotherapie (schematherapie) bij uiteenlopende aandoeningen. In mijn laatste functie richtte ik mij op schematherapie en traumatherapie voor volwassen met autisme met comorbide persoonlijkheids- en traumagerelateerde problematiek. Op dit moment ben ik mij aan het oriënteren op een nieuwe baan binnen de patiëntzorg.

Research
“By critically examining our own actions, we can enhance the effectiveness of treatments.”
My research activities span from psychodiagnostics to psychotherapy. Meanwhile, there is a common denominator in all these activities, namely improving care for patients with mental health problems by critically examining how patients talk about their symptoms, the role of clinicians in that process, and whether highlighting side effects, errors, and therapeutic failures can optimize care. On the website, you will find Dutch ‘artikelen‘ and English publications in which I have been involved as a (co-)author.
Education
My educational activities focus on psychodiagnostics, clinical skills training, and peer supervision. I provide education within the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience at Maastricht University. Some of my activities include:
- Developing the Psychodiagnostics block within the bachelor’s program in Mental Health Sciences (GGK) at the Faculty of Health, Medicine, and Life Sciences (FHML).
- Coordinating the Malingering and All That block within the Forensic Psychology master’s program at FPN.
- Training in personality disorders classification and crisis intervention within the Mental Health master’s program at FPN.
- Leading peer supervision groups for both the Forensic Psychology and Mental Health master’s programs.
- Supervising bachelor’s and master’s theses.
Patient care
I have been working in clinical practice for over twenty years. I am trained as a neuropsychologist, healthcare psychologist (two-year post graduate training), and subsequently as a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist (four-year postgraduate training). I have worked in rehabilitation centers, academic hospitals, and specialized mental health care facilities. My experience includes neuropsychological and psychological assessment, short-term symptom-focused treatments (cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR, Narrative Exposure Therapy), and person-centered psychotherapy (schema therapy) for various conditions. In my most recent role, I focused on schema therapy and trauma therapy for adults with autism and comorbid personality and trauma-related issues. Currently, I am exploring new opportunities within patient care.
